Unemployment is the scourge of communities as well as individuals and families. Given that the core mission of Housing Associations is to provide affordable housing for those on low incomes, the creation of employment and facilitating initiatives which will better equip the unemployed for the job market fits naturally alongside their primary activities.
There are numerous examples of associations setting up, running or supporting training and education opportunities and it must be a priority to link these to projects which can provide work for those who have previously been unemployed.
The benefits of an economically active community will always be apparent and make the management of neighbourhoods blessed with this condition much easier. All the more reason to put resource into promoting employment!
