IHP Conference 2015 Chicago
A contingent of Housing Partnership UK colleagues attended the International Housing Partnership conference in Chicago at the beginning of October. A full summary report of the conference will be circulated separately but suffice to say it was a very successful conference.
The conference was part sponsored by the McArthur Foundation and they hosted the conference reception at the Hancock Tower. This was a spectacular setting for our gathering with stunning views of the Chicago cityscape and Lake Michigan ( which apparently contains 21% of the worlds fresh water ! ). In addition to the formal sessions we visited a number of regeneration projects including the former factory site for the Pullman train carriage company. ( Question. How many CEO.s can you get in one lift? Answer. Obviously too many if the lift gets stuck ! ) While the other delegates enjoyed a free afternoon the HPUK colleagues took the opportunity to arrange a visit to an additional regeneration scheme near Michigan University with Bill Pavolla from the City of Chicago Planning department.
Chicago is also famously the home of blues and no visit would be complete without a visit to one of the legendary blues clubs. Our delegates did not let the side down. However one of our American colleagues took away more memories than he planned for ! Don’t ask !
